Understanding Vedic Transits
The difference between Rashi Parivartan & Nakshatra Shifts.
In Vedic Astrology (Jyotish), the continuous movement of planets through the cosmos is known as Gochara (Transits). While your natal birth chart is a static snapshot of your karma at birth, transits act as the "delivery mechanism," triggering events based on where the planets are currently located.
What is a Rashi Parivartan (Sign Change)?
A Rashi Parivartan occurs when a planet moves from one of the 12 Zodiac signs into another (e.g., Saturn moving from Aquarius to Pisces). This is a Macro-Level Shift. It changes the broad themes, global economy, and the overarching "house" of your life that the planet is influencing.
Fast-moving planets like the Sun, Mercury, and Venus change signs almost every month. However, the outer planets dictate massive life phases. Jupiter changes signs only once a year, Rahu and Ketu every 1.5 years, and Saturn (Shani) takes 2.5 years! When these planets change signs, your entire life structure shifts.
The Micro-Dynamics: Nakshatra Transits
Inside the 12 Zodiac signs exist 27 Nakshatras (Lunar Mansions). A planet will change its Nakshatra much more frequently than its sign.
While the Zodiac sign provides the "environment" for the planet, the Nakshatra provides the psychological flavor. For example, Jupiter transiting Taurus is the broad theme, but Jupiter transiting the Rohini Nakshatra inside Taurus brings a highly specific focus on agriculture, beauty, and material creation.
